Isla Aguada

Quiet Campeche fishing town on Laguna de Terminos, known for dolphins, beaches, and birdlife.

Isla Aguada is a small fishing town on the Gulf side of Campeche, where the road between Ciudad del Carmen and Campeche crosses the edge of Laguna de Terminos. It is quiet, flat, and coastal: a place of boats, pelicans, seafood, and long beaches rather than big resort infrastructure.

The main reason to stop is the lagoon. Laguna de Terminos is one of Mexico's richest coastal wetlands, with dolphins, sea turtles, mangroves, and a large bird population. Boatmen on the malecon run trips out toward Bird Island, and the best outings are as much about the water and sky as the wildlife checklist.

The town also has a small pirate-and-port history. Spanish ships used this coast, pirates hid here, and the old lighthouse now works as a modest museum. Isla Aguada is not polished, but it makes a good slow stop between Campeche and Ciudad del Carmen if you like beaches without crowds.

Things to Do

Isla Aguada's best sights are simple: the lagoon, the beaches, and the old lighthouse near the centre of town. Bring sun protection, water, and patience; services thin out quickly once you leave the malecon.
