North America > Mexico > Mineral del Chico
Mineral del Chico is a small mining town in the mountains north of Pachuca, close enough for an easy day trip but different enough to feel like a proper escape. The streets climb around a stone church and a tight little centre, while pine forest and rock outcrops press in from almost every side.
The town's old silver mines are the reason to come. Several former workings now run guided visits, from simple tunnel walks to more physical routes with ladders, damp shafts, and hard hats. Above town, El Chico National Park adds the second half of the trip: cool forest, crags, waterfalls, and trails that make the place more than a heritage stop.
Mineral del Chico is busiest on weekends, when visitors from Pachuca and Mexico City fill the plaza and restaurants. Midweek is quieter, sometimes too quiet, but the mountain setting still carries it.
