Diving and Snorkelling

The reefs off the Santiago Peninsula give Manzanillo its best diving — large rock formations, swim-throughs and a reliable population of moray eels, octopuses, and the occasional manta or large turtle. The best months are the dry winter, December to March, when water visibility is at its longest.

Several dive shops operate from the marinas around Las Hadas. The signature wreck dive is the San Luciano, a freighter sunk in 1959, lying in 50 metres of water just off the bay. There are easier shore-snorkel sites at La Audiencia and at the small Roca Elefante off Playa La Boquita.
