Manzanillo

Colima port city and Pacific resort spread around Manzanillo and Santiago bays.

Manzanillo sits on Mexico's Pacific coast in the state of Colima, about halfway between Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco. It has long been one of Mexico's most important port cities, but in recent decades it has grown into a resort destination — particularly after the 1979 film "10" was shot at the Las Hadas resort, putting Manzanillo on the international map.

The town curves around two bays — Bahía de Manzanillo and Bahía de Santiago — separated by the Santiago Peninsula. The beaches range from busy resort strands to quiet, unpopulated stretches where sea turtles nest. The waters are excellent for snorkelling and diving, and deep-sea fishing — Manzanillo calls itself the "sailfish capital of the world" and has a 30-metre sailfish monument on the malecón to prove it. The climate is tropical, hot and humid, with a rainy season from June to October.
