Academia de San Carlos

The Academia de San Carlos occupies an 18th-century building created for the Royal Academy of Beaux Arts. It is the oldest arts academy in the Americas, and generations of Mexican painters, sculptors, and architects passed through its classrooms.

The building is administered by the National University and hosts permanent and temporary art exhibitions. It is a good stop in the Centro Histórico if you want a quieter art visit between the big-ticket sights.
