Getting There

Mexico City is the main international gateway to the country. Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX), a few kilometres east of the centre, is the busiest airport in Latin America, with direct flights from across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The two main domestic airlines are Aeroméxico (SkyTeam) and Volaris, joined by low-cost carriers VivaAerobus and Interjet. A second airport, Felipe Ángeles (NLU), opened to the north in 2022 and now handles a growing share of domestic traffic.

Long-distance buses are excellent and reach every corner of the country from four main terminals at the cardinal points of the city — Norte, Sur (Taxqueña), Oriente (TAPO), and Poniente. Look for executive (ejecutivo) or platinum (platino) class for the longer routes; they are reclining, air-conditioned, and good value. Driving in is straightforward on the toll highways (cuotas) but traffic at the city limits can be brutal; if you have a car, plan to arrive outside rush hour.
