Museo Nacional de las Culturas occupies the former Mint building just off the Zócalo, a handsome 18th-century structure from 1734. The museum looks outward from Mexico, with galleries on world cultures, archaeology, and anthropology rather than a purely national collection.
It is a useful stop in the Centro Histórico when you want a quieter museum close to the Cathedral, Templo Mayor, and Palacio Nacional.
