Zócalo

One of the world's largest city squares, heart of Mexico City

Officially the Plaza de la Constitución, the Zócalo is one of the largest city squares in the world and the symbolic heart of Mexico. It is bounded by the Metropolitan Cathedral on the north, the National Palace on the east, and the old city government buildings on the south. The huge Mexican flag in the centre is raised and lowered with full military ceremony each day. Come at night to see the buildings lit up.
