Morelia is famous throughout Mexico for its traditional sweets — candied fruit, cajeta (goat milk caramel), and elaborate sugar confections. The dedicated Mercado de Dulces, just west of the Plaza de Armas near the Palacio Clavijero, is the obvious place to stock up. For craft goods, the Casa de las Artesanías de Michoacan, housed in an old convent near the cathedral, sells the finest examples of Michoacan's rich craft traditions: lacquerware from Uruapan, copper work from Santa Clara del Cobre, and textiles from across the state.
