Getting Around

Boaco is a small city and most of it is walkable, though the hillside terrain means some climbs are steep. The upper and lower towns are connected by a main road that winds up the hill — walking between them takes about fifteen minutes and is worth doing once to understand the city's geography.

Mototaxis are the main local transport. They are cheap, plentiful, and quick — the drivers know every corner of the city and the fare to anywhere in town is minimal. Shared taxis also run on the main routes. For trips out to the surrounding countryside or nearby villages, hiring a taxi by the hour is the practical option.

There is no local bus system within the city itself.
