Boaco is not set up for tourism and does not pretend to be. What it offers is a view of provincial Nicaraguan life that few foreign visitors ever see. The cathedral, the hilltop views, and the surrounding cattle country are the primary draws. The city is a useful stop for travellers heading deeper into the Nicaraguan highlands.
