Boaco is about 90 km northeast of Managua on the highway to Muy Muy and the cattle regions. The drive from Managua takes around two hours depending on traffic. Regular bus services run from Managua's Mercado Mayoreo terminal — the trip costs little and buses depart frequently through the morning.
From Boaco, you can continue by bus or taxi northeast to Muy Muy and onward to Matagalpa, or south toward Juigalpa and the Chontales department. There is no commercial airport; Managua is the only realistic arrival point for travellers coming from outside Nicaragua.
