Joaquin Miller Park

Redwood-lined Oakland hillside park with trails, city views, and a wilder feel than its urban address suggests.

Joaquin Miller Park climbs into the Oakland Hills, where redwoods, chaparral, creeks, and open viewpoints make the city feel surprisingly far away. The park is named for the poet Joaquin Miller, but most visitors come for the trails: shaded routes, hill climbs, and glimpses across the Bay when the weather is clear.

It is one of Oakland's best outdoor escapes if you have a car or are willing to plan the transit connection. Wear proper shoes, because the paths can be steep and dusty or muddy depending on the season. Combine it with nearby Redwood Regional Park if you want a longer East Bay hiking day.
