USS Hornet is a retired World War II aircraft carrier preserved as a museum in Alameda, just across the estuary from Oakland. The ship fought in the Pacific and later recovered the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 astronauts after splashdown.
Visitors can usually explore the hangar deck, flight deck, and selected interior areas, with guided tours reaching control rooms, engineering spaces, and other parts of the carrier. Allow at least three hours, and more if you are interested in naval or aviation history.
