Colony Hotel

The 1926 Colony Hotel sits at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and SE 1st Avenue and is the surviving piece of Delray's first wave of resort development. A Spanish Colonial Revival building in pink stucco with red barrel-tile roofs, it was originally a snowbird resort for wealthy Northeasterners — open only in winter, with guests taking the train down from Boston. It is still seasonal, closed in summer.

Even if you are not staying, walk through the lobby for the painted-cypress ceilings and lobby fireplace, and visit the private Cabana Club on the beach (open to hotel guests and members). The Colony is one of the very few intact 1920s hotels left on this stretch of coast.
