Sundy House

Built in 1902 by Delray's first mayor John Shaw Sundy, this is the oldest surviving house in the city — a Queen Anne Victorian with wraparound porches and gingerbread trim, set in a lush sub-tropical garden of orchids, bromeliads and giant philodendrons. The house operates today as a boutique hotel and restaurant; the gardens (the Taru Gardens) are open to the public.

Lunch and Sunday brunch on the garden terrace are well-regarded. Even without eating, a walk through the gardens — particularly the koi pond and tropical greenhouse — is worth a stop. Combine with the Spady Museum a few blocks west.
