Delray Wreck (SS Inchulva)

A British steamship that ran aground in a 1903 hurricane and broke apart 150 yards off Delray's beach. Today the wreck of the SS Inchulva is a popular shallow snorkel and dive site — the bow and a section of the stern are in about 20 feet of water, easily accessible from shore. The site has been colonised by reef fish, parrotfish, and the occasional turtle or nurse shark.

Conditions are best on calm summer days with low surf. Several Delray dive shops can rent gear and run brief guided trips. Inexperienced snorkellers should go with a buddy; the current can be stronger than it looks. Worth half a day in the right conditions.
