David G. Raney House

The Raney House is a Greek Revival home built in 1838 by a cotton merchant who arrived from Virginia during Apalachicola's first boom. The pediment, fluted columns, and twin chimneys are textbook Greek Revival; the interior, restored by the Apalachicola Area Historical Society, contains period furniture and family items from the Raneys' century of occupation.

The house is open for guided tours on a limited schedule — generally afternoons, a few days a week — and free admission is funded by donations. It is one of the easier antebellum interiors to see in the Florida Panhandle and a short walk from Gorrie Square.
