John Gorrie Memorial Bridge

The 4.1-mile bridge carrying US 98 across Apalachicola Bay to Eastpoint, opened in 1988 to replace an earlier 1935 structure. Named for the local doctor who invented mechanical refrigeration, it is also the practical link between Apalachicola and St. George Island.

The bridge has a generous pedestrian and bike lane on the south side, and walking even a short distance out puts you above the bay with views back to the historic district. Sunsets from the bridge are reliable. There is parking at the west-end abutment if you want to walk.
