Rosemary Square (CityPlace)

Mediterranean-themed shopping and dining district (now Rosemary Square) south of Clematis

Rosemary Square — until 2019 called CityPlace — is a 72-acre development of Mediterranean-revival arcades, fountains, and chain shops built in 2000 over the former 1920s railway yards south of downtown. The visual centrepiece is a restored 1926 Methodist church reused as an event hall, surrounded by hibiscus-pink stucco and a long plaza with a programmed fountain.

It is what it is: a developer's idea of a European town centre, dropped into a Florida city. The shops are mostly national chains, the restaurants run from Cheesecake Factory to better local independents, and the food court on the southern end is the easiest cheap lunch downtown. Useful on a hot day for the air-conditioned walkways.
