Busy Bee Café

A small Westside soul food restaurant that has been frying chicken and stewing oxtails since 1947 in the Atlanta University Center area. Lucy Jackson opened it; her recipes are still followed. The fried chicken is the dish to order, with collards, mac and cheese, and a slice of sweet potato pie.

Lunchtime queues are long, especially on Sundays after church. Cash only. The dining room is small and unfussy; this is a working neighbourhood restaurant that the rest of the city makes pilgrimages to.
