The Varsity

A 1928 drive-in on the edge of Georgia Tech that has been feeding the city chili dogs, onion rings, fried apple pies, and frosted oranges for almost a century. The menu is unchanged in any meaningful way; the carhops still bring food out to the parking lot.

Indoor seating spans several rooms divided by allegiance — Tech, Georgia, neutral. Order a couple of chili dogs (a 'naked dog walking' is one without bun, walking is to go) and a frosted orange, and eat them quickly. Open very late. Cash and cards.

A story
The Varsity opened in 1928 across from Georgia Tech and is the world's largest drive-in restaurant — at peak game-day operation it serves more than 30,000 people in a single day. The carhop greeting 'What'll ya have?' is an Atlanta institution.
