Savannah is served by Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV), about 8 miles west of downtown. The airport has direct flights to most major US hubs. Ground transportation into the city runs about 20 minutes by taxi or rideshare.
By car
I-95 runs north-south along the Georgia coast and is the main interstate approach. From the north (from Charleston, South Carolina, about 2 hours), take I-95 south to I-16 east, which leads directly into downtown. From Atlanta (about 4 hours), take I-16 east from its junction with I-75/85.
By train
Amtrak's Palmetto and Silver Meteor services stop at Savannah's Amtrak station on Seaboard Coastline Drive, about a mile west of the historic district. The station has no taxi stand — arrange a rideshare in advance. Service runs to New York (about 11 hours) and Miami (about 9 hours).
By bus
Greyhound and Flixbus serve Savannah from Atlanta, Jacksonville, and along the East Coast. The bus station is on West Oglethorpe Avenue in the western edge of downtown, walkable to the historic district.
