Mississippi Museum of Art

The state's main art museum has a permanent collection focused on Mississippi artists — Walter Anderson's Gulf Coast watercolours, the self-taught painter Theora Hamblett, the photographer Birney Imes — alongside touring exhibitions. It is small enough to do in an hour and good enough to be worth the time.

The museum is part of the Mississippi Arts Center downtown, with the Art Garden — a public sculpture park and lawn — out front. Entry to the permanent collection is free.
