Mississippi State Capitol

The current state capitol, completed in 1903, is a Beaux-Arts limestone pile modelled on the United States Capitol in Washington — dome, rotunda, twin chambers, the lot. The gilded eagle on top stands 180 feet above the street.

Self-guided tours are available during business hours. The interior is worth a look for the stained glass and the surviving original gas lighting in the legislative chambers.
