The Grove is the colloquial name for a half-mile stretch of Manchester Avenue between Kingshighway and Vandeventer, just east of Forest Park. It emerged in the late 1990s as the city's main LGBTQ+ nightlife district, taking over from older gay-bar clusters in the Central West End, and remains the densest run of bars and clubs in St Louis.
A series of public-art neon arches lights the street at night, and a summer block party — Pride in The Grove — closes the road in October. Restaurants have followed the bars: Sasha's wine bar, Olive + Oak, and the Atomic Cowboy combine food and live music. The neighbourhood is small but lively, especially Thursday through Sunday.
