Tower Grove Park

Victorian-era park with eccentric coloured pavilions

Tower Grove Park is a 289-acre park immediately south of the Missouri Botanical Garden, gifted to the city in 1868 by the same Henry Shaw who founded the garden. It is the most intact 19th-century park in the United States, designed in the romantic English style — a National Historic Landmark in its entirety.

The park's distinctive features are its eleven pavilions, scattered through the grounds in styles ranging from Turkish to Chinese to Victorian Gothic, each painted in vivid colours that surprise on a first visit. A farmers market runs Saturdays in summer, and the park hosts free outdoor concerts on Sunday evenings. The surrounding South Grand neighbourhood has the city's best concentration of Vietnamese restaurants.
