The Mural Mile

Mile-long stretch of graffiti and street art on the floodwall

The Mural Mile runs along the floodwall on the west bank of the Mississippi just north of the Arch — a continuous mile of legal graffiti and street art that has become one of the most active outdoor art spaces in the Midwest. New work goes up constantly; nothing is permanent.

A formal program, Paint Louis, brings dozens of artists to the wall over a long weekend each Labour Day to repaint sections. The rest of the year individual artists work on their own pieces, layering over older ones. Walking the length takes about an hour. There is nothing else along this stretch, so come for the art alone, ideally in daylight.
