Cherokee Street

Antique row turned Latino strip, with galleries, bars, and taquerias

Cherokee Street runs east-west through south St Louis and is the city's most lively immigrant commercial strip — a long row of taquerias, panaderias, paleta vendors, and Spanish-language storefronts that have grown up over the last two decades as the surrounding neighbourhood has become Latino. The eastern stretch retains an older identity as Antique Row, with two blocks of vintage and antique shops.

The street has a strong arts scene layered on top: galleries, screen-printing studios, a film cooperative, and several music venues in old storefronts. The Cinco de Mayo street festival each May is one of the biggest in the city. Pair a visit with the South Grand Vietnamese restaurants a few blocks south for a thoroughly polyglot day of eating.
