Day Trips

Concord is well placed for day trips into the rest of New Hampshire. Manchester, the state's largest city, is half an hour south and has the strong Currier Museum of Art and the well-preserved 19th-century Amoskeag mill district along the Merrimack River. Lake Winnipesaukee and the central lakes region are 45 minutes north on I-93 — Wolfeboro, Meredith, and Weirs Beach all make easy outings. The White Mountains are within two hours: Franconia Notch State Park, the Kancamagus Highway, and Mount Washington are all reachable for a long day from Concord.

To the south and west, Lake Sunapee and the Mount Sunapee state park are 45 minutes via I-89, with hiking in summer and skiing in winter. The seacoast — Portsmouth, the historic shipyards, and the short stretch of Atlantic that is New Hampshire's coast — is an hour east on Route 4.
