The Upham-Walker House on Park Street is an intact 1831 Federal-style townhouse next door to the New Hampshire Historical Society. Three generations of the same family lived here from its construction until 1971, when the last surviving owner, Mary Walker, willed it to the state. Because no one ever modernised it significantly, the interior is a remarkable time capsule of 19th-century domestic life — original furniture, wallpaper, books and china all still in place.
Free guided tours run in the warmer months — typically Wednesday through Saturday afternoons from late May to October. It is a brief visit, usually less than an hour, and a fine companion to a trip to the museum next door.
