The Battle Monument at the intersection of North Warren, North Broad, and Brunswick Avenue marks the spot where Washington placed his artillery during the Battle of Trenton on 26 December 1776. The 148-foot granite column, completed in 1893, is topped by a bronze figure of Washington and is one of the tallest battle monuments in the United States. An elevator inside takes visitors to a viewing platform near the top — open seasonally and worth the trip for views over the city and toward the Delaware River.
The monument anchors a small park at what was the centre of the fighting. A few blocks away, the Assunpink Creek bridge — scene of the second battle of Trenton two days later — is still crossed daily by traffic on South Broad Street.
