Chambersburg, south of the downtown, is Trenton's Italian-American neighbourhood. The community dates to the late 19th century and has survived the decades better than most of the city: you will still find Italian bakeries, a few old-school restaurants, and the kind of neighbourhood social clubs that have mostly vanished elsewhere.
The area is centred on Chestnut and Chambers Street and is easily walkable from downtown in about twenty minutes. It is also the best place to eat in Trenton — the thin-crust Trenton tomato pie was invented here, and a handful of pizzerias on and around the main streets have been making it for generations.
