The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology sits on the University of New Mexico campus and is one of Albuquerque's best places to understand the wider Southwest. Collections cover archaeology, Indigenous cultures, human evolution, and world anthropology.
It is more academic than touristy, which is part of its value. Visit before heading to Petroglyph National Monument or the Pueblo cultural sites, and the landscape around Albuquerque will feel less abstract.
