Loudonville

Small Ohio canoe town on the edge of Mohican woods and Clear Fork gorge.

Loudonville is a small town in north-central Ohio, just north of the wooded gorge country of Mohican State Park. Its downtown is modest, but the surrounding Mohican area gives it a clear travel identity: canoe liveries, forest trails, a restored grist mill, and one of Ohio's more interesting literary farms all sit within an easy drive.

This is not a city to cross the country for, but it is a good one-day target if you are already in central or northern Ohio. Start with the gorge trails in Mohican State Park, stop at Wolf Creek Grist Mill, then detour to Malabar Farm State Park for Louis Bromfield's Big House and the pastoral hills around it.
