Castle of Muskogee

A 60-acre privately built faux-medieval castle on the east side of town, the result of one man's obsession with European fortifications. Visit-time is structured around themed events: the Renaissance Festival in May, a haunted Castle Halloween Festival in October (one of the largest such events in the US), and a Christmas market in December. The compound is not impressive architecturally — wood and stucco, not stone — but the events are genuinely well attended and have an underdog charm. Skip outside event seasons.
