The McDonald is a 1925 atmospheric movie palace — Spanish-style facade, stars-in-the-ceiling auditorium — that the Kesey-era counterculture saved from demolition and turned into a music venue. It now hosts mid-sized touring acts (capacity around 750) with the original architectural shell intact.
Even if nothing is on, the exterior is worth a look — it is the most striking building on the downtown grid and one of the few significant pre-war commercial buildings in town.
