'It's the Climate' Sign

1920s neon arch over 6th Street proclaiming the town's mild weather

The "It's the Climate" sign hangs over 6th Street and has become the unofficial symbol of Grants Pass. The first version went up in the 1920s, when the Chamber of Commerce was promoting the Rogue Valley as a healthier alternative to the wet and grey winters of much of the Pacific Northwest. The current neon version is a faithful restoration of the original.

It still works — Grants Pass has notably more sunshine and warmer summers than coastal Oregon or Portland. The slogan is half boast, half tongue-in-cheek civic pride, and is now stencilled onto everything from postcards to brewery glassware.
