PNC Park sits on the north bank of the Allegheny River, directly facing downtown Pittsburgh, and the view from almost every seat in the stadium is remarkable — the skyline, the river, and the three bridges (Roberto Clemente Bridge, Andy Warhol Bridge, and Rachel Carson Bridge) forming a backdrop unlike anything in baseball. Game or no game, the Roberto Clemente Bridge leading from downtown to the park closes to cars on game days, creating a pedestrian promenade that fills with fans for several hours before first pitch.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have had a long period of mediocrity interrupted by occasional excitement, but that has never much affected the stadium's atmosphere on a warm summer evening. Single-game tickets are usually available and not expensive by major league standards. Tours of the facility run on non-game days and include the press boxes, dugouts, and warning track. The Allegheny River Bicycle Trail passes directly below the outfield wall, making a waterfront bike ride easy to combine with a game.
