On the roof of a pest control company's office at 161 O'Connell Street near I-95 sits a nine-foot-tall fiberglass termite, painted blue, that has become one of Providence's most recognizable landmarks. The bug — officially named Nibbles Woodaway — has been up there since 1980 and has accumulated a cult following disproportionate to its modest origins as a company mascot. Local media dresses it in seasonal costumes for holidays.
The Big Blue Bug is visible from I-95 as you drive through Providence, which is where most people first notice it. There's no admission, no hours, no fuss — you just go look at the giant blue termite. It's a short detour from Federal Hill.
