Roger Williams National Memorial marks part of the early settlement of Providence and tells the story of Williams's argument for religious liberty. The site is modest, but the idea behind it is large: freedom of conscience as a founding principle rather than a later improvement.
The 4.5-acre grounds include lawns, paths, interpretive exhibits, and a visitor center with a short film. It makes an easy stop between downtown Providence and College Hill.
