Kennedy Plaza

Kennedy Plaza is the central public square of downtown Providence, a rectangular space in front of City Hall. The plaza is the hub of Providence's bus network, but also functions as a civic gathering space for rallies, markets, and public events. In winter it sometimes hosts an outdoor skating rink.

The surrounding blocks contain some of Providence's finest commercial architecture from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including the Providence Biltmore hotel (1922), the Turk's Head Building (1913), and the Rhode Island Hospital Trust Building (1920). A short walk in any direction from the plaza takes you through a concentrated sample of the city's Gilded Age architectural ambitions.
