A Beaux-Arts limestone-and-brick courthouse completed in 1904, the Brown County Courthouse anchors the downtown historic district. The dome, classical columns, and clock tower are the most ambitious civic architecture in the region — a statement of confidence from a railroad town that briefly imagined itself the next Minneapolis.
The interior is open during business hours; the marble staircases and stained-glass skylight are worth a quick look. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and shares a block with the Dacotah Prairie Museum.
