The streets south of the Choo Choo were warehouses and small factories well into the 2000s. The Main Street corridor and the streets running off it now hold the densest concentration of independent restaurants, taprooms, and small-batch breweries in the city.
Bluegrass and country acts play the Songbirds music venue; Sluggers, Hutton & Smith, OddStory, and a dozen other small breweries cluster within a few blocks. The Sculpture Fields at Montague Park, the largest privately-funded outdoor sculpture park in the South, sits a short drive south-east.
