Warehouse District

The Warehouse District, along 4th and 5th Streets west of Congress Avenue, occupies Austin's former commercial warehouse zone and is now the city's most upscale bar and restaurant neighbourhood. The converted industrial buildings house craft cocktail bars, rooftop terraces, and some of Austin's better restaurants, along with the Long Center for the Performing Arts overlooking Lady Bird Lake.

The neighbourhood draws an older and more affluent crowd than 6th Street. The Long Center is the city's main venue for ballet, opera, and symphony performances. The stretch of 4th Street between Congress and Lavaca has the highest concentration of bars; 2nd Street between Lavaca and Bowie has the restaurants and boutique shops. The neighbourhood connects naturally to Rainey Street to the south via a short walk along the lake.
