Crownridge Canyon Natural Area protects a pocket of Hill Country habitat on the northwest side of San Antonio. Its short trails pass through oak, juniper, limestone ledges, and seasonal creek beds, giving a quick taste of the rougher landscape beyond the city's freeways.
It is not a destination to cross Texas for, but it is a useful local escape if you have a car and want a quieter walk than the River Walk or downtown parks. Go early in hot weather, carry water, and stay on the marked trails to protect the fragile canyon vegetation.
