The Institute of Texan Cultures is the place in San Antonio to look beyond the Alamo version of Texas history. Its exhibits focus on the many communities that built the state: Indigenous peoples, Tejanos, Germans, Czechs, African Americans, Asian Texans, and more.
The museum has been moving through a transition, so check the current UTSA visitor information before setting out. When open, it works well as a thoughtful counterpoint to the city's mission trail and downtown history sites.
