Brigham City is a quiet county seat at the northern end of Utah's Wasatch Front, backed by the Wasatch Mountains and fronting the broad flats that slope toward the Great Salt Lake. With a population of around 17,000, it has the feel of a rural market town — family farms ring the outskirts and the pace is unhurried.
The standout reason to visit is the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, one of the most important wetland habitats in the American West. Hundreds of species pass through during migration season, and the refuge has a handsome visitor centre with exhibits and a wildlife drive. Brigham City also makes a convenient base for Golden Spike National Historic Site, where the first transcontinental railroad was completed in 1869, and for Willard Bay State Park on the lake.
