Powder Mountain

Powder Mountain sits on the north side of Ogden Valley and is one of the largest ski resorts in the United States by skiable acreage — over 8,000 acres, most of it lift-accessed, with additional snowcat terrain beyond. Yet it remains relatively quiet. The resort is owned by a community-minded group that has deliberately kept it low-key, resisting large-scale development, and the result is one of the least crowded mountain experiences in the Wasatch.

The snow quality here is consistently excellent — Ogden Valley sits in a meteorological sweet spot that catches storms rolling off the Great Salt Lake and adds to them. Intermediate terrain dominates, but the snowcat access opens up big, untracked powder fields for strong skiers willing to pay the supplement. The base village is simple and unpretentious: this is a mountain for people who come to ski, not to be seen doing so.
