Lake Whitingham (Harriman Reservoir)

Vermont's largest body of water entirely within the state, Lake Whitingham (also known as Harriman Reservoir) is a long, narrow lake created by the 1923 Harriman hydroelectric dam on the Deerfield River. The shoreline is mostly undeveloped and forested, and the water is clean and cool enough for swimming on hot afternoons.

Public access points include the Ward's Cove and Mount Mills picnic areas, and the lake is open to kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats. A clothing-optional beach at the southern end has been a long-standing local tradition.
